Are you the asshole? Depends how many cats you put ahead of your family. If you are talking one or 2 you are not the asshole. If you are talking 5 plus, then you should listen to your family. You can't save all the cats.

you are under no obligation to save every living thing you come across. It's great that you have a big heart, as long as it isnt to the detriment of the other humans in your home.
