The man was a military lawyer whom negotiated the release and exchange of Americas last hostages from the British. Upon their release from naval vessels in the Baltimore harbor, the British immediately attacked Fort Henry with relentless cannon fire. The aim was to destroy the new American Flag flying high. They fired all night and eventually hit the flag mast. Soldiers rushed in to raise it by hand. Again it was fell and again soldiers rushed in to raise the flag again and again. Upon the dawns early light with smoke filled skies. . . the flag remained aloft although not quite upright. The remaining soldiers were all dead who came to the rescue of Old Glory, only the bodies of the dead soldiers held it aloft. God Bless America and those brave men whom gave thier lives.
