Either Sidley Austin is a hive of evil and Vance is controlled by deep state, with the Obama connections (which were in Chicago, not sure if Vance was in the same office at same time) and NXIVM.

OR, he has goods on folks and saw the corruption and now is acting on what he found out. Or, was sent there to gather intel leading to this very day of a VP nod...
