My theory is a little bit different. They might be able to recognize when they've been beaten, but you also understand that these people operate in timelines of generations and centuries. The devil might sacrifice a couple bloodlines to make a tactical retreat and slowly work his way back in to try again. That's what I think is going on. They are going to try as hard as they possibly fucking can to take him out and do as much damage as they can on the way out, like the Russians do when you invade. They burn The crops and retreat into the shadows to hide and wait a generation or so before they start working their way back in. Everybody who remembers The hard fought lessons will be too old or dead. Killing Trump might be their hail Mary to hold on for a little bit longer, but as of this moment for them defeat is inevitable. But this is a war that never ends. Sometimes in war you are going to lose a battle. But the devil is patient. He will take his lick and bide his time.
