I don't think there is a hole. The way I read Dr. Jackson's words, the wound is graze to the ear. I am envisioning a red inflamed streak across the ear. An oozing scab which is why it required the bandaging. I suppose somewhere out there is evidence of the wound saved... kind of amazing it has not been "leaked" as yet. .
