Well, you have revealed yourself to be a complete fraud. I have had a career in laser systems and laser light sure as hell refracts. A "normal atmosphere" is refractive. So much so, that the sun is actually below the horizon when we see it setting. You will get no traction with me.
I am sorry you are so provincial that you think the Earth is flat. Everyone else from Magellan onward have known it proven otherwise. Especially when we have international shipping, air travel, and orbital travel.

The ONLY reason you can see the origin of a laser beam from 30km away is that there is NO curvature for the source to be hidden behind.
Not suddenly. Only since the mid-1970s. I edited/rewrote the final proposal for the system that became the YAL-1A Airborne Laser, which shot down a boosting ballistic missile in 2010.
A laser beam is light. Light refracts. The atmospheric density gradient is a refractive index gradient. Refractive index gradients result in curved ray paths. In my university grad work, I was involved with a gasdynamic device that projected a flowfield that could refract a laser beam through a semicircle.
You are the one who doesn't know anything...and are the shill. And nowhere did I say it refracted along the curvature of the Earth, only that it does refract close to the Earth. I guess you must disbelieve in the existence of mirages, also.
The only atmosphere a laser beam is refracting enough to overcome 500m of alleged curvature is in a laboratory involving very ABNORMAL conditions.
I've already pointed out that light will refract in the NORMAL atmosphere enough to show us the solar disk when the sun is already below the horizon. And that this refraction is a fact of practice at radar wavelengths. You are not doing half a kilometer of "curvature" (whatever you mean by it) in a laboratory.
The atmosphere can do these kinds of things. Remember mirages? They can make visible things that are far over the horizon.
These are worthless "proofs." The Earth is so large, the "normal" terrain is "flat" insofar as it makes any difference for daily activities. Ships still sail over the horizon hull first, and lastly the mast. Circumnavigation is a fact of life.
And in a NORMAL atmosphere, laser beams DO NOT BEND. It is an empirically objective property of lasers.
A normal atmosphere has a built-in refractive index gradient. I don't know why you are so ignorant of this. The radar community has known about this for a very long time, since they are typically operating at low elevation angles over long distances. They find it convenient to account for the curvature by calculating the beam position as though the radius of the Earth was 4/3rds its true value. Never heard of that? Then you don't know about atmospheric refraction.
Lasers are only light. They are not magically immune to the things that light is subject to. Your problem is that you don't know much about the "normal" atmosphere.
