Why wipe the schedule if he is staying? The don't want kamala face out there appearing to be running anything because when the DNC nomination happens it's probably gonna be someone else.

I don't think they'll let joe die in office. They'll be stuck giving him a bug funeral for show and give the media a headline to distract from other things.
