I have heated with wood for close to 30 years with a stove that burns clean. Dry wood will burn with little to no smoke. Keeping the stove going 24/7 will also keep the chimney clean. Every time I've had a chimney sweep come and look, they've come off the roof feeling dejected that the chimney flue is already clean. Almost 30 years and no brush has been needed even one time. A hot chimney will not condense any creosote.
I know this too. I use wood heat for years in WA
