Washington DC vacation

My best friends wife and his 2 kids are going to Washington DC tomorrow for vacation. We are from Oregon. Hes not into conspiracy or political stuff. I told him it was a bad idea. What are your thoughts of this vacation. Is it safe for her to go alone with 2 kids?

I was there for Jan 6th, lots of homeless tents on sidewalks even a block from the White House back then. Only city I've visited that I didn't bother to bring any souvenirs home from. Since all the museums were still closed for the koof I couldn't visit any of them anyway.
