The International Olympic Committee is very assiduous at protecting their copyrights and branding. As far as I can tell, the Special Olympics is the only organization allowed to use the “O” word and that only after the IOC lost in the court of public opinion.
The IOC is a corporation, not a government organization and they can do as they like with their intellectual property.
