I posted here last November about bloodwork I had done that showed elevated Thyroid Stimulating Hormone, indicating hypothyroidism. Of course the medical professional (RN) I was seeing at the time wanted to put me on Levothyroxine. I resisted, started taking a kelp supplement thanks to the recommendation of the good people on this board, and this year my TSH is well within the normal range. However, unfortunately, now my cholesterol numbers are high, particularly triglycerides, so if anyone has ideas how to get that under control I would appreciate the help. In any case, thanks Great Awakening! Edit to add: The doctor wants me to try diet and exercise for 3 months and then retest cholesterol. So no prescriptions for now. Again, you people are wonderful!

Hi, first, great job managing your health. I am wondering if you've got your vit d levels checked recently? If your vit d levels are low (ideally they would be close to 100 for optimal health, thought the med industry says 30 is ok, and natural med docs recommend around 50), I would suggest bumping them up. This alone can help to decrease your cholesterol levels. You have to take your D3 with the correct ratio of vit k2, otherwise the d3 will pull calcium into your bloodstream instead of into your bones. Try researching high dose vit d3 for more info on cholesterol management. I suggest taking at a minimum 2,000 iu d3, and a tablet of vitk2. Personally, I take 20,000 iu vit d3 with 5,000mcg of vit k2 daily (been on this dose for about three weeks now, and all sorts of things, such as joint pain and inflammation, are healing in my body, along with weight loss and muscle gain). Another suggestion is to mind the fats and oils you eat; that is, eat healthy fats, such as beef tallow, grass-fed butter, and real olive oil (glass bottled, pure olive oil--most are contaminated intentionally with other oils). Don't eat deep fried foods. Increase your B vitamins, especially B3 (niacin). Be sure to take good probiotics and digestive enzymes with your meals. Finally, a nicotine patch regimen (get the 21mg patch and cut it into quarters, use one quarter daily) will help you to detox any toxins you're exposed to, and you'll lose weight from this as well.
Thanks! Please tell me more about the D3/K2 ratio. My Vitamin D tested at 61 this year, it was 69 last year. I take 50,000 IU D3 once a week, and then I get 800 IU D3 with a calcium supplement I take. I take 100 mcg K2 daily. I have osteopenia so I am concerned about getting calcium to my bones. I also drink milk so get about 500 mg per day and my calcium supplement is 1000 mg.
