Holy Father, living this life is like directing a movie: Most of the time we try to contain all the action within a fixed wide angle shot, but at times we need to get these shots moving in and following specific actions. As there is nothing we can change in our past to change the present, we should avoid flashbacks, except when explaining others some past situation. I guess it is the same for fast-forwarding shots which eventually depict anticipation. At this moment, I contemplate my life situation: sitting on an Ikea sofa, watching the hills through an open window, with purring cats and GreatAwakening.win on this other virtual window. The smell of coffee feels nice. I have taken the end of the week off. I praise You for having my back.

Today we celebrate Scribonius Largus.

Scribonius Largus Designatianus (c. 1-c. 50) was the court physician to the Roman emperor Claudius. About 47 AD, at the request of Gaius Julius Callistus, the emperor's freedman, he drew up a list of 271 prescriptions (Compositiones), most of them his own, although he acknowledged his indebtedness to his tutors, to friends, and to the writings of eminent physicians. Certain traditional remedies are also included. The work has no pretensions to style, and contains many colloquialisms, and has been cited by Peter Suber as a forerunner of Open Access. The greater part of it was transferred without acknowledgment to the work of Marcellus Empiricus (c. 410), De Medicamentis Empiricis, Physicis, et Rationabilibus, which is of great value for the correction of the text of Largus. Largus is credited with an early description peripheral nerve stimulation in the form of shocks from electric fish to provide relief from gout and headaches.
