I wonder if that is legal. Conducting elections is governed by law. The governor doesn’t get to make laws.
This is the same thing that many complained about, rightly so, in previous elections in Arizona and elsewhere.
The legislature probably passed it and then the Governor signs it into law.
The Governor issued Executive Order 35. I am against any and all Executive Orders that exceed the Constitutional authority of a chief executive (President, Governor, etc).
The Revolutionary War was fought for many reasons, and escaping the whimsy of Royal Decree was definitely chief among them.
They will still be using computers to do the counting in Virginia via optical recognition. There will be a paper trail at least.
It should have required double verified hand counting like the old days, and the VA Congress should have enacted such a measure.
I agree... it's who counts the votes that matters.
To clarify: it is clear that paper ballots and hand counting is the most accurate and cheat-proof way to handle elections. However, Q said things must be done by the book. It is important that updated rules for running elections are put in place using the proper procedures.
