While I'm sympathetic to service people, and tip accordingly (cash), there are many many others who need a similar accommodation in their lives.
Again, I'm sympathetic, but this is a junior version of college debt amnesty.
There would be more for "all" of us if every able bodied person would work and contributed their fair share, rather than leaching off of our tax dollars.
Not at all like student loan debt-
Tip $$$ is revenue that has ALREADY BEEN TAXED!
My earned income can be given to whomever the fuck I want and the IRS can pound sand-
The gov has zero right to double dip!
Either way tips are income and we should all face income taxes equally.
You can't really use the double dip argument in this case because it's done universally across all service industries. Should my plumber be income tax free just because I paid income tax on my earnings?
As for my comparison to college debt relief, they both steal from taxpayers without their consent.

A tip is a gift- period.
