I read a lot on infertility several years ago. While I do not begrudge those who have utilized it, what pisses me off is how much if it is a scam. It is relentlessly pushed for age related infertility when initially, it was invented for infertility due to blocked fallopian tubes. Something like 75% of the procedures fail (which is why there are multiple rounds, etc.) - anything else with that track record would not pass the muster in terms of a "treatment", but it is a serious moneymaker* and women are gaslit with emotional blackmail - "oh, you didn't try hard enough. You must not really want a baby." It's very cruel.
*My friend has two daughters- both came to him and his wife in tears at the same time because they were not able to get pregnant. The oldest is about 30 and her sister is a couple of years younger. They did not have the money. Essentially, my friends are working a couple of more years at this point because the price of them getting grandchildren was them fronting the cost of IVF. At the time he shared what was going on,, I asked him how much were they in for so far. He paused and answered "$250,000". Now, it worked and they are thrilled, but it also had a very good chance of not working. And there are a lot of people out there who don't get that happy ending. Either they don't have the resources to begin with, or they spend it all and have nothing to show for it.
