I have lived in SOFL since summer 2021 due to Covid restrictions in my home state, where I sadly will never return. Since moving here, every summer the water temps get up into the 90s. I know because we live near the beach and I tend to watch the data during hurricane season. Anyways, I read somewhere that the ocean has been cooling at a surprising rate about a week ago. I have also been surprised by the overall lack of storm activity this summer (I know I’m not a native but I’m into weather and this year is different FFS). So I decided to check the water temp data, and lo and behold it is nearly a full 10 degrees cooler this year! The national hurricane center usually provides a link to the difference between now and an average of the years 1990-2011 (I’m guessing the years but it’s something ridiculous that shouldn’t matter today). But they no longer provide links to the data they use to analyze hurricane weather conditions including sea surface temps, Saharan dust, wind shear and large scale weather fonts or steering currents.
The news recently said we may have a system pop up around Labor Day. We shall see but these cold 86 degree waters aren’t substantiating the claim.
I’m in San Diego , thankfully our water has been warm enough to get in without stopping my heart . I’ve been in the ocean Nearly everyday this past week !
