My county sent me a love letter that my home value has been reassessed to $410K up from $300K and therefore my property taxes will be increasing substantially along with the millage rate increasing with the ‘passage’ of the huge school levy so they can demo and build new schools which are not needed, and the city thought they needed to join in the love fest and sent be a letter that they are pleased to increase my water bill by 7%.

I am paying more in property taxes each month than I am in interest on the mortgage. You never really own your home; you are just renting it from the government. I really got pissed off about property taxes when my great aunt had to keep selling off parts of her farm to pay the property taxes. So I started to push for those over 65 to be exempt from paying property taxes.

I would like to see all property taxes to be eliminated.

That’s why they make it hard for families to keep their generational homes. They want to force the sale of the inherited property so they can re-assess taxes at the higher rate.
