In 1996 I had dinner with some work friends. It was a birthday celebration for one of them, and her mother, who had a PhD in pharmaceutical sciences and worked as a consultant in the industry, was also invited. After a couple of drinks the mother told us that there were cures for cancer but they were being suppressed for $$$$$$$$$$$$$$. I didn't understand the big picture at the time, but I have always remembered that comment.
