why have colorado and new mexico been so consistently gay for years, when the whole demographic surrounding them remained conservative.

It's the same for MN. The only truly "blue" areas are the Twin Cities, and maybe Rochester or Duluth. But after the disaster of the "Summer of Love" those areas went full red, but of course cheating, fraudulent ballots, and illegals imported from Somalia will flip any election.
