Thank you all for those prayers & love. While we may disagree on some specifics on this board, the unity & love we genuinely have for each other is an amazing blessing to each of us.
UPDATE - My father's surgery went well. Apparently half of his gal bladder was necrotic & had huge stone in him. The surgeon & nurses are good friends with my wife & irrigated/flushed everything out really well. They do not expect any septic complications.
He actually did begin sepsis either the night before, or the day we took him into the hospital. The theory about him still zoning out occasionally is from that, being old, and multiple other medical conditions he has mildly ignored for as long as I have been alive. Old cowboy who just tough it out mindset.
They expect a full recovery, though needed to cut the incisions a littler larger than normal to remove everything correctly, and he cannot walk on his own. As well he cannot lie down flat without incredible pain at this point. The medical staff (along with my wife) agree he should go into a rehab center to help him care for himself for 2-4 weeks so he can get assistance getting into the bathroom & have physical therapists & trained techs to help him get back to beating able to carry his own weight (over 300lbs).
My mother is so emotional because she isn't "strong enough" to help him get into the bathroom, though she laughed when I told her she was the only woman/mother I know who was strong enough to put up with rasing me well enough to stay out of prison & to be so dedicated to raising my children to live with high morals & reject making the same mistakes I made growing up.
He will be in a facility about 35-45 minutes away due to the closer ones all having a bad reputation in the medical community locally. Both in opposite directions, both with a really good track record & patient care reviews.
There is still a long healing process & recovery, though it looks really hopeful now.
Again thank you all so much for your prayers, research (seems statistically myself & my baby bro are likely to have similar issues if we don't make some changes too). I will be putting much of that into practice & seem to have many of the supplements & herbs already from getting ready for possible Covid issues a couple years back.
I love you frogs & truly feel even now that in this community WWG1WGA already.
Again ❤️🤗💗🫂💕 you all!
I’m so grateful to hear the great news. God is so good! My only advice is to make sure somebody is at that care Center every day to make sure they’re taking care of him. When my father was in a care home I would go in the middle of the night and just sit there on my phone, because I knew nighttime is the time they would be most neglectful
Not to scare you or anything, but my neighbor, who is in a care home after her abdominal surgery… She kept having pain and they were giving her Tums, but it turned out. She was having kidney failure. She got to the hospital in time to stay for a week, but after that, she decided she wanted to come home because she didn’t want to stay in one of those hospitals. The people running them are not the sharpest tools in the shed, because people are elderly, I don’t think they’re main objectives is the keeping them alive.
I don’t mean to be a doomer. I’m just saying… someone needs to be physically in that hospital with your dad every day to make sure his needs are getting met. Even if it’s just for one or two hours a day. The staff will notice that, and step up because they know you’re gonna show up and they don’t know when.
Prayers going up for your dad!
This is a great idea. Thank you! This seems to be the reason we were given a few locations so far away. There are over a dozen facilities closer to his home & my home, though they all suffer from this specific issue according to knowledge within the staff at the local hospital.
It also seems to be a problem from the top down in those facilities likely focusing on faster profits vs true care.
