Two things…some of you may remember that we had two, 8 mo old Labrador pups that got Parvo. By the time we could find a vet that would take us (two days later and 3 hours away), it was too late for one pup who bled out and died in the garage three days after the vet appt.
The surviving pup, now 16 months is showing the same symptoms…again. He’s been throwing up all night and it looks like there may be blood. We were told he had immunity for life after surviving it. Going to get tested today. Please pray that this test is negative.
And prayers for me. Got an infection in Jan that was hard to knock down. Was on antibiotics for 4 weeks, then two more weeks. Then again a few months later. I’m still in pain, ongoing 8 months. Not to mention, all those antibiotics have messed my system up something fierce. (Small town dr’s are not up to snuff, imo.). Please pray that I find the right doctor, a correct diagnosis and healing.
Frankly, I’m exhausted. Thanks, frogs.
Please read below. It's the dehydration that kills with parvo. I was able to save two dogs without a veterinarian's help by using a turkey baster and forcing them to drink chicken broth or water. I squeezed the broth through their lips and clenched teeth hourly (and all through the night) until they recovered.
Parvo dehydration Parvovirus (Parvo) infection in dogs can lead to severe dehydration, a critical condition that requires immediate attention. Dehydration occurs when the body loses more fluids than it can absorb, causing an imbalance of electrolytes and fluids. In Parvo-infected dogs, dehydration is often a result of:
Severe vomiting and diarrhea: The virus causes intense gastrointestinal distress, leading to excessive fluid loss through vomiting and diarrhea. Intestinal damage: The virus destroys the lining of the intestines, allowing bacteria to leak into the bloodstream, further exacerbating dehydration. Inadequate fluid intake: Infected dogs may refuse food and water due to nausea and lethargy, worsening dehydration. Symptoms of Parvo Dehydration
Lethargy Decreased appetite Vomiting Diarrhea (often containing blood and mucus) Pale or blue-tinged gums Sunken eyes Decreased skin elasticity Rapid heart rate
God bless!!!
T/u…yes we did round the clock IV bags for both of them for 4 days (the first time). Plus syringes. It was brutal. Saved one…not the other.
I'm so sorry for your loss :(
