My parents were in Anchorage during the '64 Good Friday earthquake. Buildings down, power down, roadways like Legos. Relief folks show up, including the Red Cross. They set up several 'coffee & donut' stations, for the folks nearby. When you got there, they charged you for the coffee and donuts.
My parents were military, and evac'd soon after. But they never forgot.
And never let us forget, either.
Jokes on them: I never donate to the Red Cross.
