The "art world" has been a front for all manner of organized crime back to the 1950s and beyond. Money laundering, trafficking, drugs......

Why do you think literal POS "art works" like single-color canvases, or splatter garbage, or "sculptures" consising of nothing, will go at auction for tens of millions of dollars?
