I've been watching hurricane tracks since before Katrina.
This is the oddest one I have ever seen.
Cannot even recall a track like this
Maybe, someone can correct/inform me this is not unusual.
Asheville has been hit by two major hurricanes like this. They followed almost the same path. The one in 1916 was called The Great Flood of 1916, it killed hundreds and completely destroyed downtown Asheville and 80% of the homes in the area. There was just no news about it because it was 1916 - but go search it.
My family is from there. My family farm was completely destroyed in 1916. In 1960, the year I was born, there was another hurricane that destroyed two homes on our property and washed out a ton of roads. 50-60 people died.
The asheville area is a big bowl, just like New Orleans. Tons of rains ruins it so fast you don't even see it coming.
Someone else said Lenny in 1999 formed in the Caribbean.

Milton formed in western gulf and headed east
that one also goes against everything i learned about how hurricanes travel
but so does what that hurricane did on 9/11
