The only other “historic event” that would match this is the accidental spread of Small Pox, first by European adventurers and then on larger scale by later colonizers. Which Small Pox alone, spread by adventurers, began the decimation of: north and South America, the southern half of Africa, and many of the Pacific and Atlantic islanders; decades before full colonizers arrived in these places.

Covid and the Vaccines would be the purposeful spread of a disease, or several diseases causing immunization compromising problems and death.
