Pharmacists know much more about drugs and their interactions and you are supposed to be able to consult with them. However, the drug stores want to churn out a volume, and good luck getting 5 min of their time. They make 100K a year fresh out of school but they spend as much time in school as a Dr. A PHD level of hard classes. 65K-200K
Wow! I had a friend/neighbor who was stationed at Ft. Campbell , KY who was a Pharmaceutical Technician. She got her training through the military and when she left our state she was continuing her education to become a full Pharmacist. She used to look at any medications that was given to me or my children to see if the dosage was right and what the side effects would be. I'm sure she's retired now, but she was a good person.
We don't have a looting problem at our Walgreens. We simply can't keep a Pharmacist.

Yeah, Corporate wants them to NOT do their actual Job, much more money to be made that way. Their pay is not the problem.
