A "freehold" means freeholder or freeman. The word "freemen" appears in the unabridged lyrics of "The Star Spangled Banner." Freemen or state citizens enjoy a status superceding federal or US citizenship as defined in the Fourteenth Amendment and pursuant to the Ninth Amendment.

"Freeman - A person in the possession and enjoyment of all civil and political rights accorded to the people under a free government" (Page 599, Black's Law Dictionary Fifth Edition).
