I probably have another 5 fertile years left max. I have 2 little ones and really wish I could have another 1-2 so I can do my part to repopulate the West. I just wish our society was better set up to accommodate families with small children. I really feel like part of the MAGA agenda should emphasize more support in that area, especially for those of us who would love to have bigger families but don’t have a village.
We have good jobs and can afford kids, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t extremely challenging. I’m not hoping for freebies or anything like that, but just some way to make the costs of children more manageable. It costs us around $1800/mo to have them in a very basic, no-frills daycare. And even with my “good” health insurance, it still cost me $14k out-of-pocket for each of my deliveries. Also bigger cars and homes to accommodate bigger families= more money.
I feel like we have so many resources for low-income families to support their kids, but nothing for the middle class. If we were poor, we’d get free daycare and free pre-K, free groceries, etc. But it’s the middle/working class who get royally fucked over. I know so many people my age who are college-educated, stable, productive members of society that want families but genuinely don’t feel like they can afford it. That needs to change if we want a population boom.
