Consent under duress is not valid under law. Nor is a violation of one's religious beliefs or conscience. Threatening a person's livelihood is duress, or coercion, pure and simple. (Incidentally, this is where unions could have lived up to their obligations by protecting their members from workplace coercion, but I don't recall any of them standing up for the right in this instance.)
