Because the two aircraft were at similar speeds, the other aircraft would be approximately 45 degrees left and right respectively. It would have been hard not to see the landing lights of the airliner for an extended period of time in the same general location in the windscreen. If the controller called out the helicopter to the airliner, it should have been easy to see.
So we have a helicopter coming from Langley (CIA) and a passenger jet coming from a state sharing the same name as former CIA director Pompeo's SS name (Kansas).
Easy to see visually, but they were training on night vision devices.
I do not know the instruments on this helicopter. Heads Up Display? Could the night vision devices had prevented from their seeing their own altitude? heading? They should have known their altitude??
If night vision devices prevent them from accurately reading their own instruments?, why were they out there in a busy corridor of friendlies to do night vision training??
