It or variations of it was the U.S Presidential Seal from the 1870s to 1945. Though the verdict is out on precisely when it was formally adopted according to what research I’ve done. Just that versions were in use as early 1877. It was changed permanently in 1945 by Harry Truman via executive order so the eagle is facing the Olive Branch.
