I gave up on the NHL when they expanded from the original six. There used to be 12 great players at the time: now with dozens of teams, they might have 5 great players.
The teams no longer have anything in common with the cities in which they are based.
It's all about the cash.
Harold Ballard stopped paying for top players when he realized Toronto fans would show up no matter how badly the Leafs did. He traded away good players when they became expensive and laughed all the way tothe bank. They haven't won a Stanley Cup since 1967 but they still sell out.
