Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Rules For the rest of the Site also accessible on the sidebar.

Bless you, J1D, you're a good woman! 💐
It seems to be late stage, so I'm not sure anything can be done at this point.
There doesn't appear to be many good choices:
Give the state every penny we have right now to get Medicaid and a nursing home. I hate nursing homes, (both my parents eventually ended up in one), and don't want that for my beloved.
Or
Hold on as long as we can until it's truly unmanageable, then self-paying every month and hope it doesn't end up bleeding us dry.
My life in the meanwhile......
Oh, hey look, there's only one set of footprints in the sand! 👣
Oh dear friend, I completely understand, we had to use a nursing home for my Mom's rehab but they kept her too long and she didn't recover...so we'll never do that again. We could have taken better care of her ourselves.
If you have to go the route I highly recommend getting a 'Lady Bird Deed' if it's legal in your state.
Here's some info:
A Lady Bird deed is a legal document that lets a homeowner give their property to a beneficiary after they die, while keeping control of the property during their lifetime. It's also known as an enhanced life estate deed. Benefits of a Lady Bird deed Avoids probate The property transfers to the beneficiary without going through probate, which can be costly and time-consuming. Saves property taxes The homeowner can keep the benefit of property tax caps while they're alive. Medicaid eligibility The homeowner can qualify for Medicaid benefits for long-term care. Flexibility The homeowner can sell, lease, or mortgage the property without the beneficiary's permission. How a Lady Bird deed works The deed divides ownership of the home into two parts: during the homeowner's life and after their death. The homeowner is the life tenant and has full control of the property. Lady Bird deeds in Texas Lady Bird deeds are a common tool for estate planning in Texas. I sent you a PM, hope you get it.
Got it Captain!
