This tax info is a tad misleading b/c sales tax rates vary from state to state too. Texas doesn't have a state "income" tax, but we've got 8.25% sales tax - which is pretty steep. IMO, for this type of data analysis to be more precise, it should include the state & local taxes along with the state "income tax" rate too. These scumbags steal our money coming and going - they just use different names/categories to justify it. Sigh.
Should probably add "property taxes" into the mix as well. TX property taxes are astronomical compared to many other states. For example, property taxes in Austin (Travis county) are 2% per year - which is TWICE the rate of Los Angeles county at 1% per year. And in Travis county, the property tax rate is based on CURRENT estimated home value (based on prices of neighboring home sales) - described as "assessed value" vs. in L.A. county it's based on the PURCHASE price.
So, in effect, Texas charges home owners every year a hidden 'capital gains' tax in the form of ridiculous property taxes on UNREALIZED capital gains from an "assessed value" of their home that they haven't materially earned anything from because they haven't sold it to realize any gains.
Also, in Texas, your home can be subject to MULTIPLE counties' property taxes COMBINED! I know someone who moved from L.A. county to Frisco, TX (suburb north of Dallas) and their house was in some type of cross-over border line between Collin county and Denton county somehow, which subjected them to paying property taxes for BOTH counties. And they don't even have any children either re: property taxes 'paying for schools' (which is even more unfair on top of it). After they moved to Texas, they were like, "What the eff did we get ourselves into?!?"
So, all these hidden 'gotchas' in taxes are just laying around like land mines waiting to blow your legs off, basically. :-(
Many thanks for your kind words. :-) Geez, so sorry to hear that Florida got invaded during COVID and was ruined in multiple ways. That's awful! :-(
Why would people flee to Florida during the CV lockdowns and then bring their Commie/tyranny values there?? Baffling! If they love tyranny so much, why not stay where they are?? But that's what tons of Californians have done to Texas - especially Austin metro. San Francisco tech sector workers have taken over Austin's 'mini Silicon Valley' and brought their Commie values with them - bigly.
Back to Florida though... I went to FL on vaca a couple of times in 2021 and absolutely loved it there. Actually started considering moving there after those wonderful trips. Sounds like it's gone downhill since then though, based on what you're saying. :-(
I went to Trump's 7/3/21 rally in Sarasota and then went on to enjoy the Trump floatilla boats and major fireworks on the water of Tampa Bay on 7/4/21. It blew my mind how much Trump love was being displayed by the people at both locations and everywhere in between. Everywhere you looked, residents were flying Trump flags on their cars and boats - it was so awesome! After that, I went on a bunch of dolphin spotting boat rides at Clearwater Beach too. I really love Clearwater Beach!
Went back to Clearwater Beach later in 2021 for more dolphin spotting boat rides and jet skiing, and spent several days on Islamorada Key where I went swimming with dolphins multiple times and explored this amazing sea creature habitat with incredible dolphin and sea lion shows called Theater of the Seas.
Are there any parts of Florida that are still nice, not infested by libs, affordable, residents speak ENGLISH predominantly, and seem safe crime-wise? If so, where would you recommend? Thanks in advance!
