Thru the Bible - Minute with McGee Dr. J. Vernon McGee
This Is The Day
Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, today, after so long a time; as is said, today if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.” Now, he’s saying, “not tomorrow, but today.” And today is today for you and me. Back yonder, it was another day for these folks that the writer here is addressing. But, my friend, today—right now, wherever you are, look at your watch or clock. What time is it? Well, this is the time of salvation. This is now. Now! Right now you can trust Christ as your Savior. “Today, if you will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.” What a wonderful thing!
Daily Promises
Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. (John 8:12)
Walk in the light. Forsake the deeds of darkness. God has promised life to those who will put away their old lives and trust on His life. His Son will send all darkness scurrying to the uttermost parts of the earth. He will be a lamp unto thy feet. It is Christ Himself who will lead His people from the very shadow of death unto the Light everlasting. Hallelujah! What a saviour!
A Flourishing Life
They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing. -- Psalm 92:14
God wants us to live a flourishing life, fulfilled by the purpose that He has for each of us to do.

C. H. Spurgeon's Evening Reading (April 20th)
"Fight the Lord's battles." — 1 Samuel 18:17
The sacramental host of God's elect is warring still on earth, Jesus Christ being the Captain of their salvation. He has said, "Lo! I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world." Hark to the shouts of war! Now let the people of God stand fast in their ranks, and let no man's heart fail him. It is true that just now in England the battle is turned against us, and unless the Lord Jesus shall lift His sword, we know not what may become of the church of God in this land; but let us be of good courage, and play the man. There never was a day when Protestantism seemed to tremble more in the scales than now that a fierce effort is making to restore the Romish antichrist to his ancient seat. We greatly want a bold voice and a strong hand to preach and publish the old gospel for which martyrs bled and confessors died. The Saviour is, by His Spirit, still on earth; let this cheer us. He is ever in the midst of the fight, and therefore the battle is not doubtful. And as the conflict rages, what a sweet satisfaction it is to know that the Lord Jesus, in His office as our great Intercessor, is prevalently pleading for His people! O anxious gazer, look not so much at the battle below, for there thou shalt be enshrouded in smoke, and amazed with garments rolled in blood; but lift thine eyes yonder where the Saviour lives and pleads, for while He intercedes, the cause of God is safe. Let us fight as if it all depended upon us, but let us look up and know that all depends upon Him.
Now, by the lilies of Christian purity, and by the roses of the Saviour's atonement, by the roes and by the hinds of the field, we charge you who are lovers of Jesus, to do valiantly in the Holy War, for truth and righteousness, for the kingdom and crown jewels of your Master. Onward! "for the battle is not yours but God's."
Amen! My goodness what a treasure trove of biblical information with supportive scripture. Well done putting this together! Yes; none of his elect will fail Him. Once we are called we know Him by His voice. I am so blessed to know Him not by any action of my own (as how can a dead man resurrect himself) but He chose us first. I am so grateful for this charge to serve Him and do his work by spreading the good news. We truly are in a battle as Paul says not of flesh and blood but spiritual forces of evil. And yes, not our battle for the work was done for us on the cross at Calvary; we only have to serve our Lord and His will shall be done!
"we only have to serve our Lord and His will shall be done!"
Amen!
