Hello frens. My brother in law is a decorated Viet Nam Vet. He has suffered for years due to all of the shit he was exposed to over there. He is a tough guy and has never complained. Worked hard in private sector with their insurance. He is trying to get his vet benefits now due to medical problems. I do not know all the details but sounds like he is getting a bad runaround. I would love to find someone to get these problems resolved and show him that trump is actually helping vets. Any advise would be appreciated.

This might be a good place to start.
Disability Compensation (800-827-1000) eligibility pages, among others, for detailed requirements.
Doug Collins is the current Secretary of Veterans Affairs and he has pledged to do all he can to help veterans. Personally, I always believe in going straight to the top if I'm finding resistance. Here is their website and contact info.

I would also suggest your brother reach out to either of his two US senators and his US Congress person for assistance (actually, I would do it for him if I were you.) And maybe even his state reps. All the best. I know Trump made things better and easier for Vets in his first term (for instance, if sick or having medical issue, they no longer had to go to the nearest Veterans hospital, they could go anywhere locally that they chose and their benefits were intact.) Good luck. I hope you'll let us know that all has worked out for him. God bless.
There are advocates who help the vet go through the process. There are some in the VA system. Maybe American Legion or VFW could help get started. Do NOT give up!
The VA has its own bureaucracy. You have to jump through their hoops. But once you are IN, it is easy and the VA is helpful and gives coordinated care.
A vet is eligible for disability pay for all service connected disabilities. And free VA care for service connected disabilities.
Good luck, and don't give up!
Is he on disability already? If not, getting on it would solve so many things. I had a good attorney who helped my son get disability and a settlement. No cost up front. the attorney is in Calif but we did the whole thing online. the law office is Potter,Cohen and Samulon, in Pasadena, California. Really saved us from the horrid sorting out of all of it on our own. I really suggest getting an attorney. Personally, we could not have dealt with the stress of doing it alone. Definitely helps to be a veteran too.
