I would describe that more of a brainwashing technique.
There is something similar that the Jehovah's Witnesses do, although not with the weird fact followed by canned laughter. What the JWs do is bombard you with scriptures that seem to check out according to their version, and even if you had some doubts about a scripture, by the end of the sermon or bible study, you will have forgotten about it and are more likely to just accept it later as the framework of lies, gets built (with some truth in there as well).
if you see a church without a cross, or they tell you not to wear a cross, get away quickly. It is a non christian cult. They deny the true deity of Christ.
Cults love to make you play their games.
But seldom speak of this:
