As a former Technical Editor and Writer, I can tell you that even highly educated people often misspell "led" as "lead." I cannot tell you how many times I have made that change in technical documents, letters, and other communications throughout my career. It's an easy mistake to make, so I'm not reading too much into this particular misspelling.
