So what did Ortiz do for 6 years between her deportation order for not showing up and her new motion in late 2024. Seems like November got her worried…. She had six years to do it and did nothing, Her story is tragic, yes…. But she SHOULD have made her hearing six years ago and fought to stay ever since. She probably would be a citizen by now. I’m sure her story rings true for someone, I am not the one to judge that from my armchair for her. But I do judge the fact that she made no effort to defend herself or her child ability to stay in a legal manner till it was too late. She missed that boat that sailed while things were in her favor. There is no excuse for no effort! Whether her story is true or not! Being afraid of the consequences is no excuse to not try to correct. The ultimate consequences were known when she came here if she did not follow a process. Even that is not guaranteed, but it IS the only way.
