An 8.7 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Russia has sparked a tsunami warning and watch alert along almost the entire west coast of the United States and parts of Japan.
The earthquake struck at around 9.30am AEST, and was measured by the US Geological Survey as shallow, at a depth of 19.3km.
Initially recorded as an 8.0 magnitude earthquake, updated data clarified it was actually a magnitude 8.7.

Alaskan here. The AK warning is a non-starter. Happens all the time.no populated areas to affect with water.
Any quakes that reach inland are a 4 at best by then.
Anyone telling you different is a FF spreader.
