I think they only realized around February. They were expecting to tie him up with RINO stalling tactics to prevent him from seeking justice. Their plan was after 4 years of ineffective governing, they would win and go full Starmer in 2028.

IMO a good chunk of Trump's cabinet is compromised, and the BBB was as much pork as substance. But he has the cards now. With a conspiracy that big, all it takes is for a few low-level conspirators to start snitching.

Personally, I think they realized on the day of Butler that they had been had. Personally I don't think it was dumb luck or divine intervention that saved Trump, but rather it was that the Patriots were fully (fully) aware of the plot well ahead of time.
