Transparent? Relatively, probably. Secretive? Of course. What percentage of data do you think Space X has disseminated to the public? I'd go 5 percent. The government doesn't let you play George Jetson without some pre-conditions....
Very true. Rocket tech is subject to ITAR regulations. So there is a lot that cannot be made public
