I was caught up in a situation like that once. Fucked my financial life up very badly for a long time.
Assholes bought up an apartment complex I had lived in for years, and immediately doubled everyone's rent in the complex. Nobody plans for a cost of living bump like that, and with such short notice, not much can be done to prepare for that drastic of a cost of living change. Filthy, and unethical business practice.
