But there is no western Canadian initiative to secede. Another key point is that this is grass roots… don’t expect the provincial governments in BC, Sask, and Manitoba to recognize or support this.
In my opinion, Alberta is on the verge, and if things decline much further there will be a wave similar to Trump ‘16 or Brexit. Even with a ‘yes’ vote the Canadian government won’t allow it, even though they’re legally obligated to do so. It will be another fight. Having said that, once Alberta leaves, Sask will be right behind, and then maybe the territories. At this point it will be a choice between taking an economic lifeline from the U.S. or sticking with Canada and going down with the ship. Find the clip of Trump’s reaction to the statement “Canada isn’t for sale”. He knows exactly how this will play out.
