Im hoping we're both missing something that gives this a humorous context. Mere absurdity isn't quite it. The underlying premise of Vance getting out of politics is subliminal and sort of sinister. Unless he's a known super fan of Tolkien, I don't like it.

To each their own my friend. I personally would prefer something like Vance will campaign for president in 28 requiring visa applicants be able to read loth. Or outlawing the humanizing of orcs in adaptations. The whole point of their character is to be mindless evil.
