You are touching on a very important tenet of Post-Modernism (and as a direct extension, Neo-Marxism).
With this strategy, they gain support from those who otherwise would be repulsed by what these things actually are.
As for your first question, I think the war on language is focused on English because that's what everyone is speaking. That's the avenue for the power and control they want. Spanish has gender codified into the language, so they would never make any progress, distracted by restructuring the language itself. Other languages simply don't have the audience they seek.
