Susan B. Anthony's Prayer for Justice and Equality (1896)
Susan B. Anthony, a leading figure in the American women’s suffrage movement, often framed her activism in moral and spiritual terms. This prayer is adapted from her speech at the National American Woman Suffrage Association convention in Washington, D.C., on February 15, 1896, where she invoked divine support for the cause of equal rights. It reflects her unwavering belief that justice and equality were divinely ordained principles for the nation.
The Prayer:
"We beseech the God of justice and righteousness to inspire the hearts of this nation’s people and its leaders, that they may see the truth of equal rights for all. Grant us strength to labor tirelessly until every woman stands as a free and equal citizen, and may America fulfill its promise as a land of liberty under Thy guidance. Amen."
Amen
