It's not complicated in context. It is pointing out that heathen idols are nothing but dead metal, bereft of the breath of life, literally thr gift of God.
People love to pull verses out of context to use for whatever point they want to make, but in context a lot becomes clearer.
Remember this is a psalm, a poem. It is literally art, not literal instruction.
Understanding comes easier with reading snd seeing how words and imagery are used in the culture of the biblical hebrews through to the early church.
idolatry is rampant and has been for centuries. Remember most of people on earth willing or unwittingly? are serving / worshiping demons and refuse to repent . They refuse to believe or admit their obvious sin. They are utterly deceived.
So anything that can be used as a means for trade is an idol?
That's a bit far reaching.
I guess I'll just have to get used to trading a barrel of hay for a popsicle...
That's all you took away from that verse?
I have a very specific question, it is not comprehensive in regards to the ideas in the verse.
I don't read it as having anything to do with trade. People made actual idols in those days and prayed to them.
The verse states, "The idols of the heathen are silver and gold..." and it shows what presumes to be a silver coin.
The implication is that we are heathens if we have or use silver or gold...
Not “merely” heathens…
But just as blind, deaf, and dumb as a silver coin with a face on it
This why I don't read the Bible. I can't make heads or tails of that verse

I believe context is the trick the devil uses. But I always say you can't hurt anyone by reading it
Context is greater knowledge. The devil uses lies and misleading fragments, not the full, unabridged truth.
Truth is in context al also
It took me 5 hours of reading every word and looking up every word’s definition. Started at beginning of chapter to hopefully give me more context.
Its deep, and its OK to take your time. and read at your own pace; to look up every word
Like… what the heck is a “storehouse?”
The translations from greek/Hebrew are dubious at best
