I visited San Francisco in the late 70's and was completely charmed by the city. I had occasion to return in the early 80's and was distressed by how much the city had deteriorated in just a few short years. It was so bad that you couldn't walk a block away from the hotel without being surrounded by derilicts. It was truly frightening because these people were quite confrontational.
Considering we were there for my husband's professional conferences -- we wondered how long the city could continue to attract people willing to host events there. It was bad then. I can only imagine how much worse it has become over the passing decades.
I love SF during 1990. I couldn't afford to live there because everything was especially expensive even then. Well, it's worse now. I was there in the several years before Covid. It was not the same. I would not live there.
