I was just going to say that! My school did NOT have us hiding under desks. Although we children were somewhat aware of the tension of the times, we were NOT scared to death by drills to hide under our desks for an impending nuke attack!
No we just continued our lessons. Oblivious and innocent. In the event, we were not blown up by nukes -- and the desks would not have saved us. HA!
I wonder how much of the "hiding under desks" is an urban legend? I can't say, I did not go to a school that had us hiding under our desks.
I remember it well. My family was glued to the TV set until our CBS station went off the air at midnight (TV stations did that in those days). The next morning, I heard my father yelling "He did it!" from the living room, and I knew that the Atomic War wasn't going to start.
Unfortunately, the Deep State still hasn't stopped trying.
I was 17 living in Omaha-very near Offut AB and when I heard JFK's speech about full retaliation, I just knew I was gonna die, but life went on and only the memory of mortality lives on..
I was a kid, I remember the scared whispers of the grown ups and school drills hiding under desks…

My mom's school did in Florida. They also had to wear dog tags. Crazy.
In southern California during the early 70s that was the drill for earthquakes, Watts riots !

Kennedy himself said he never saw any missiles. I don't trust anything anymore.
